Decoded: Every Girl from Atlanta Drake Has Referenced in His Music Career
Drake’s Atlanta references are not confined to late-night contemplation. They also feature sharp domestic disputes grounded in specific geographic landmarks.
On the 2016 hit "Childs Play," off Views, Drake details an argument that erupts inside an Atlanta staple:
"Why you gotta fight with me at Cheesecake? / You know I love to go there / Say I'm actin' lightskin, I can't take you nowhere."
The Cheesecake Factory at Lenox Square in Buckhead is an Atlanta cultural monument, known as a crossroads for athletes, artists, and tourists. Drake describes his partner taking his car keys to ride around town, using his credit cards at the mall, and questioning his loyalty over misplaced phone notifications.
The track illustrates Drake’s skill at converting everyday relationship arguments into memorable pop music. By placing the narrative at Lenox Square, he grounded his high-income lifestyle in a setting that everyday Atlanta residents navigate every weekend.
