During a media appearance in August 2026, Fermin Lopez addressed the swirling transfer links head-on. The young Spanish midfielder, coming off a breakout cycle that cemented his status as a core attacking piece under Flick, pulled no punches regarding the squad's admiration for Alvarez.

Fermin explicitly recognized Alvarez as one of the most decisive forwards in world football. He noted that any squad competing for the Champions League would jump at the opportunity to incorporate an attacker of his work ethic and technical quality. Rather than dodging the question with scripted public relations deflection, Fermin made it clear that players inside the dressing room discuss potential arrivals, openly noting that top-tier talent always finds an eager reception among teammates.

The comments, while complimentary, provoked irritation in the capital. To Atletico, a young Barcelona midfielder speaking openly about their marquee signing crossed an unwritten line of professional etiquette. To Barcelona supporters, Fermin merely gave voice to what everyone in the club was already thinking.
