How to Draw Darth Vader: the Ultimate Beginner-to-Pro Drawing Manual
The lightsaber should illuminate the figure rather than sit as a detached neon stick. To build a believable lightsaber glow effect using traditional graphite or colored pencil, you must apply the mechanics of secondary light sources:
- Draw two razor-straight, parallel lines. Keep the center of the blade stark white. Do not color the center red; lightsabers burn with a white-hot plasma core.
- Feather crimson or soft vermilion pigment outward from the core, allowing the color to diffuse smoothly over a 5, 8 millimeter band.
- Plot Rim Lighting Across the Armor: The red light will strike every surface facing the blade. Apply a distinct crimson rim highlight to the edge of the helmet dome, the shoulder bell, the chest box corners, and the crest of the cape folds.
- Darken the shadows on the side of the body opposite the blade. The starker the value contrast, the more intensely the blade appears to ignite.
