'Mean Girl Murders' Mackenzie Shirilla Episode Guide: Season, Title, and Unseen Evidence
The Investigation Discovery series tackles the case directly in Season 2, Episode 9, titled "Under the Influence." Network schedules and on-demand interfaces sometimes catalog the episode under slightly different metadata depending on the regional carrier, but searching the title "Under the Influence" within the Mean Girl Murders directory pulls up the definitive hour-long feature.
Unlike standard cable recaps that rely strictly on archival news bites, "Under the Influence" approaches the Strongsville disaster through the social environment surrounding Shirilla, Dominic Russo, and Davion Flanagan. The production incorporates interviews with local acquaintances, including Shirilla’s former friend Jaina, who provides context on the deteriorating relationship between Shirilla and Russo. The hour constructs a timeline of the months leading up to the July 31, 2022 crash, detailing red flags that went ignored long before the car touched the asphalt of the Progress Drive industrial park.
The episode also unpacks the immediate aftermath at the hospital. Shirilla claimed she had experienced an unexpected mechanical failure or blacked out, but detectives immediately flagged discrepancies between her statements and physical evidence at the impact site.
