Team Paxton Explained: Everything You Need to Know About Never Have I Ever's Fan-Favorite
The central romantic engine of Never Have I Ever pitted Paxton against Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison), Devi's fierce academic rival. The dynamic split the show's fan base down the middle. Ben represented intellectual parity and shared neurotic tendencies, while Paxton offered emotional grounding, social safety, and genuine balance to Devi's chaotic instincts.
| Season | Paxton's Personal Milestone | Dynamic with Devi Vishwakumar |
|---|---|---|
| Season 1 (2020) | Survives athletic pressures; manages sister Rebecca's fashion aspirations | Casual friendship develops into genuine attraction; kisses Devi in car |
| Season 2 (2021) | Arm fracture ends swim recruitment; embraces academic tutoring | Betrayed by two-timing scheme; demands public respect at the winter dance |
| Season 3 (2022) | Gives graduation speech; earns admission to Arizona State University | Dates Devi publicly; breaks up cleanly after her persistent insecurities |
| Season 4 (2023) | Leaves ASU; becomes assistant swim coach; pursues education degree | Finds platonic closure; supports Devi's Princeton dreams; dates Lindsay Thompson |
Paxton pushed Devi toward emotional accountability. Unlike others who indulged her rash behavior, Paxton drew firm boundaries. When Devi dated both him and Ben simultaneously in Season 2, Paxton refused to be used as a secret trophy. He insisted on public recognition and dignity, demonstrating an internal self-respect that helped Devi recognize her own toxic habits.
