The Complete History of South Park Teachers: from Pilot Chaos to Modern Specials
Q1: Why did Mr. Garrison abandon the Mr. Hat puppet?
A1: Mr. Hat served as a psychological crutch for Garrison's suppressed sexuality. After coming to terms with his identity and briefly using a replacement puppet named Mr. Twig, Garrison eventually abandoned ventriloquism entirely as his personal storyline evolved into explicit adult relationships and broader political satire.
Q2: Who is the longest-serving faculty member at South Park Elementary?
A2: Herbert Garrison holds the longest record as an active classroom instructor, despite interruptions for presidential runs and temporary dismissals. Guidance counselor Mr. Mackey has maintained uninterrupted service across every season since 1997.
Q3: Did Chef ever serve as an official teacher?
A3: Jerome "Chef" McElroy served strictly as the cafeteria manager rather than an accredited teacher. However, the four boys regularly treated him as their primary educational and moral guide, seeking his advice over their actual classroom instructors until Isaac Hayes' departure from the show in Season 10.
Q4: Who runs South Park Elementary today?
A4: PC Principal remains the head administrator, sharing domestic and professional responsibilities with Vice Principal Strong Woman, while Mr. Garrison teaches the core fourth-grade class following his return from national politics.
