The Ultimate Guide to Sharkboy and Lavagirl: Cast, Streaming, and Game Origins
For years, film historians debated whether the dreamscapes of Planet Drool intersected with Rodriguez's iconic Spy Kids franchise. Rodriguez operates his production house, Troublemaker Studios, out of Austin, Texas, treating his family projects as an expansive sandbox. While early entries used overlapping crew and signature digital effects rigs, the connection turned explicit in the 2020 film We Can Be Heroes.
The film re-introduced adult versions of Sharkboy and Lavagirl as active members of The Heroics, an elite defender syndicate. Taylor Dooley reprised her role as Lavagirl, while stuntman JJ Dashnaw donned the Sharkboy cowl in place of Lautner. More importantly, the movie introduced their elementary-school-aged daughter, Guppy, played by Vivien Lyra Blair. Guppy inherited a hybrid power set: aquatic physiology paired with the ability to shape fluid water into dense, high-impact shields. Her presence cemented the original 2005 dream-world characters into an ongoing superhero timeline spanning multiple decades.
